Everything you know about the 'Snow White' backlash may be wrong
It turns out the Disney film may have been disproportionately well-received in red counties, as opposed to blue ones.
Disney’s remake of Snow White, which was for various reasons one of the most cursed major Hollywood projects of all time, finally arrived in theaters last Friday. I ended up liking it more than I expected to, and more than most other critics, it appears, although I will say that the reception was more positive than I expected at last week’s screening, both from the assembled critics and (more importantly) the little girls who came to the movie dressed as Snow White.
The film, in its opening weekend, made $43 million domestically and $87.3 million worldwide, which isn’t great, especially considering the reported $270 million budget.
However, it’s important to remember that the last Disney live-action remake (well, technically a prequel to the remake) was Mufasa The Lion King, which arrived around Christmastime last year, looked like a big flop at first, and ended up having legs and making $460 million at the box office. It’s not hard to imagine Snow White having a similar trajectory, especially considering that there’s not much out there at the box office in April- and it’s a much better film than Mufasa.
So you may think you know what happened here: Go woke, go broke. The general filmgoing public firmly rejected Rachel Zegler, and her stupid political comments and her stupid face, and Gal Gadot too, and fought to deal a decisive, final blow to Woke Disney. Real America rejected this film and everything it stands for- and not only that, but movies like Snow White are the reason Trump won, and why the Democrats will never win another election again.
Actually, no- some data suggests the opposite.
