Thank you, everyone, for reading the Ben Hecht 500 countdown and the response.
I’m away on vacation this week, but I’ll be popping in with a couple of posts throughout the week. In the meantime, a few notes:
Over the weekend, my colleagues and I in the Philadelphia Film Critics Circle met to vote and ratify our awards for the year. Anora was the big winner, collecting six awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Script, and Best Ensemble, while Mikey Madison won both Best Actress and Best Breakthrough Performance.
The Brutalist was runner-up for Best Film, while it also won for Best Actor (Adrien Brody) and Best Soundtrack/Score (Daniel Blumberg). Since The Brutalist and Anora were my two favorite films of the year, I’m generally happy. Our full winner list:
In case you missed it last week: Here at the newsletter, I shared my 40 least-favorite films of the year, followed by the countdown, in parts I, II, III, IV, and V, which was the top 100.
At Splice Today, I shared a much more abbreviated top ten list and also reviewed the pretty lousy Mufasa the Lion King.
For the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, I wrote about September 5, including an interview with director Tim Fehlbaum.
For Broad Street Review I reviewed The Big Story, a fascinating book about the history of local news in Philadelphia.
For Living Life Fearless, I reviewed the terrible Aaron Rodgers: Enigma docuseries and also the return of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
For Political Tribune, I wrote about Disney settling with Trump.
That’s all for today, and thank you for your support.
