I think it's more than possible, it's likely that both James Gunn and Kevin Feige came to the same realization at about the same time—"All this multiverse crap" worked! Brilliantly! It got mainstream movie audiences, the ones who never read CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS, watched SLIDERS, or knew the DC/CWVerse existed, to accept the idea of alternate realities! (Okay, that movie Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Short Round all won Oscars for, and the INTO THE SPIDERVERSE movie which also won an Oscar helped, too...some.)

Now, they don't have to justify setting SUPERMAN in a modern Silver Age, or THE FANTASTIC FOUR in its own Retro-Futuristic 1960s, or waste screen time explaining WTF Captain Marvel doesn't just "solve" Putin and Xi with a couple well-placed assassinations, and replace them with Skrulls...who would have to do a better job than either!

(Hmmm.... Replace Donald Trump with a Skrull...who suddenly demands the Republicans in Congress vote for Medicare For All, Tuition-Free College, Taxing Billionaires, and a $25/hr. Minimum Wage! It COULD work.... 🤔)

All they have to do now is set the movie in whichever universe works for them, and do their movies there. They can occasionally have crossovers, but they don't have to go crazy like they did with Phase IV and Phase V MCU, when they had to get audiences used to the idea that every universe has its own Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Captain America, and so on and so forth.
